Project Spotlight: Glover Park Brewery Marietta, GA

Just steps away from the beloved Marietta Square and nearby Meeting Park, Glover Park Brewery took over a historic two-story structure that was originally built in the 1930s, and turned it into a popular brewery and event facility. The 11,289-square-foot renovation project was designed and managed by Niles Bolton Associates Vice President and long-time Marietta local Jeff Smith.

Initially built as a warehouse storage facility, the site sat dormant for a while until entrepreneurs Sam Rambo and Hank DuPre had a vision to create an oasis for people to relax and socialize, all the while enjoying locally crafted beers and food. “Our clients bought the property back in 2017 for the purpose of converting it into both a brewery, but more importantly, an event facility,” said Smith. “There is nothing that size available on the Square, so this development was a big thing for the community.” Jeff is long-time friends with the Glover Park Brewery owners, who both come from generations of old Marietta families that have contributed businesses to the area for decades. Rambo and DuPre recruited Sweetwater Brewing company co-founder Kevin McNerney onto their team, and he now serves as the day-to-day Brewmaster developing a delicious selection of beer.

The site has worn many different faces throughout its existence, including a general merchandising establishment, a lighting store, and a community theatre. The building was still known as Marietta Lighting back in the early 2000s when a huge fire broke out. The flames destroyed the floor, the roof and everything inside. All that remained were the scorched brick walls of the foundation, but everything else was gutted by the fire. “The blackened discoloration on the brick is from the fire—we couldn’t get it off because it wasn’t just ash, it changed the brick,” said Smith. Instead of painting over the brick walls, the team decided they liked the charred spots which added character to the building and paid homage to its past, so they kept it as is.

Both the project’s exterior and interior emphasize an authentic and industrial aesthetic with touches of carefully curated furniture and finishes, fitting the eclectic history of the building. The 4,500-square-foot main level has rentable space for private events that caters up to 300 guests, perfect for weddings, rehearsal dinners, corporate events (i.e. NBA’s very own 2022 Spring Gala), holiday parties, or fun gatherings like Backbends and Brews yoga. When customers enter Glover Park for an event, the first thing they notice are the large cylindrical chandeliers glittering from the ceiling. These cast-iron lighting fixtures are from Egypt and the owners’ wives, Hannah Rambo and Angela DuPre, immediately had them shipped to America. As patrons walk further into the event space, they notice the industrial metalwork art along the walls done by local Marietta artist Jared Knox. Another interesting feature is the 800-square-foot hole in the main level floor to accommodate the brewing equipment, enclosed in sliding glass windows. Through the glass, folks can see the brewing machinery, get a whiff of the beer being brewed, or take the stairs leading down to the lower level.

Event space

The 6,000-square-foot downstairs features a taproom, bar and garage doors that open onto the dog-friendly outdoor beer garden. This level offers a relaxing atmosphere where the community can gather for happy hours, play games, or catch a sporting event on one of the various mounted televisions. There is also a spot in the garden for a rotation of different food trucks to come in every night.

Lower-level of the brewery

Open for business since 2018, Glover Park Brewery flourishes as a two-story, renovated brewery on the southside of Marietta Square. The project has received overwhelming praise from the community and is already a crowd favorite among locals. With nothing else quite like it in the neighborhood, this property is sure to be a hit for many decades to come. The next step for the brewery owners? Creating their own vodka.
